Expansion of International Flights from Navi Mumbai

The expansion of international flights from Navi Mumbai will begin in February 2027, with IndiGo planning to shift 12 daily international departures to Navi Mumbai International Airport and connect the region to 12 international destinations by July 2027.

IndiGo and Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) are preparing for a phased expansion of international flight operations at Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), with the first phase scheduled to begin in February 2027. The move is expected to strengthen international connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region while supporting the development of a dual-airport system for the city.

As part of the initial rollout, IndiGo plans to transfer 12 daily international departures from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to NMIA. These services currently connect Mumbai with Bahrain, Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah, Kuwait, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Muscat, Dhaka and Jakarta. The airline will also introduce an additional daily service to Kathmandu, taking its international network from Navi Mumbai to 12 destinations between February and July 2027.

To facilitate seamless passenger journeys, IndiGo will also shift the necessary domestic connections from CSMIA to NMIA. Adani Airport Holdings is coordinating with the airline to develop the infrastructure required to support smooth transfers between domestic and international flights. The initiative forms part of IndiGo’s broader strategy to establish Navi Mumbai as an international aviation hub.

The expansion of international flights from Navi Mumbai is also expected to create additional capacity at CSMIA for IndiGo to introduce new international services in 2027. With its growing fleet of A320/A321 aircraft and A321XLRs, the airline plans to explore new routes across Asia, Africa and Europe while addressing capacity constraints at Mumbai’s existing airport.

The redistribution of flights will also support the planned redevelopment of Terminal 1 at CSMIA by 2030. IndiGo’s corresponding reduction in domestic operations will facilitate the necessary capacity adjustments. Any further changes to the airline’s operations at Terminal 1 will be accommodated at Terminal 2.

IndiGo and AAHL intend to implement the transition through a phased and balanced approach, taking into account the operations of other airlines at CSMIA. The plan aims to minimise disruption, ensure a fair distribution of capacity between the two airports and provide greater operational certainty for airlines and passengers.

The final dates for transferring existing services and introducing new flights from CSMIA will be announced after coordination is completed and the necessary operational approvals are secured.

For travel agents and tour operators, the development signals an important addition to Mumbai’s international aviation infrastructure. The dual-airport model is expected to expand passenger choices, improve access to international destinations and create opportunities for future route development. As NMIA gradually increases its international operations, the expansion of international flights from Navi Mumbai will play a significant role in strengthening the region’s position as a global travel gateway.
